Fred Jacobs is Professor of Education at American University, Washington, DC. He joined the University in 1985 and has served as University Dean of Faculties and Affirmative Action Officer for Faculty, Director of the Ph.D. program, Dean of the School of Education, and Director of the American University Press. Professor Jacobs has been Managing Editor of The Review of Higher Education and a Senior Fulbright Scholar at A.I. Cuza University in Iasi, Romania. He has a B.A. in English Literature (with honors) from Dickinson College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a postdoctoral fellow in higher Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and served on its faculty, and has served as Academic Vice President and Provost at John Jay College, City University of New York.
